Breakfast Cups! First Attempt (again...)

I decided to try to make some breakfast cups yesterday for a project.

These are relatively easy to make, OK, really easy to make. But except for bacon I decided to use Lil' Smokies' Beef Sausages.

I didn't have any problems with them except for the fact that I overcooked them, but that was all on me.

They were really good so it didn't really matter.

I will most definently be making these again for my family in the near future!

Thank you to my good friend Nicole for letting me use her kitchen! She is wonderful, she even got in on the cooking action yesterday too, making wonderful blueberry muffins with blueberries she grew!

~Margarita Cupcakes~ First Attempt...

Tonight I tried to bake again, and I am proud of myself...

I got a recipe from a site I found on Pinterest! I have been meaning to try it for awhile now so I just jumped in!

I bought all the ingredients today (aka yesterday...) and my anxiety level was though the roof, literally. I went to go buy the tequila at the liquor store, and I was dropping things all over the place, all my change, my wallet among other things!

I came home and ate my lunch, then promptly fell asleep, I don't know why I was so tired, I had to go to the chiropractor, and I had anxiety all day it must have wiped me out.

Around 7 is when I finally got started and it wasn't so bad. I enjoyed it. So I guess just like everything, practice makes the process easier...

I did excellent on the cupcake batter! it came out as greatness!

I fuzzed up on the frosting, silly me, I tried to expedite the process and I messed it. It's a good thing it still tastes good, it is the best frosting I think I have ever had!

It looks good on the cupcakes and it complements them well it just is a little liquid-y and not stiff enough to hold its self up. When I do this again I will read the recipe better!

Smoke, Smoke, Smoke Study #1

Just playing around with some smoke.

It was super fun, and easy.
I just used 2 incense sticks at once, blew on it or moved it around to get different results.
Then edited in Photoshop

Sunday Foods - The Screen Door

So for dinner tonight we ate at The Screen Door on East Burnside in the PDX. It has soul! Because they serve southern soul food!

This place is great, though I already knew that.  This place has a great atmosphere, great food and great staff, I knew all that too.  The only problem with it is that we only eat there on Sunday nights.

This really isn’t a problem with the place, more a problem with us.

Anyways, I love it there and so does my family, and apparently  so does everybody else.

The restaurant doesn’t open until 5:30 so we try to get there around 5:15 so we can get a table.  We get there at the time we had planed minor miracle and there is already a line around the corner of the place!

Note: This was only surprising to me because I am usually at the HEAD of these lines not the middle.  It was terrible...

When they open the doors, we do get seated right away, so not much waiting done while in the building.  We get seated and get our water poured, and I swear we have the same waitress the same time.  Which is nice it seems like all the same people are always there and it is wonderful to see.

We order our drinks, Mother a coffee with LOTS of cream, Father some kind of beer, and myself I ordered a Mint Julep... JK I wish, I ordered Hot Lips Soda in Black Berry.  Drinks come fast which was surprising because the place was starting to get crazy.  I had to ask for a new glass as the one I got at first was dirty.  No biggie, our wonderful waitress brought a glass right away.

Next, we order our food.  We start with the apps (appetizers), we ordered fried Okra, Pimento Cheese, Hush Puppies and (my parents ordered) the grody fried Chicken Livers, which was one of the specials.
Fried Okra
Hush Puppies
Pimento Cheese

Fried Chicken Livers

We had forgotten to order the Hush Puppies at first so ordered them a bit after app order went in, even so they showed up first.  It seemed like seconds later the rest of our apps came in. Fast service, even though the place was jam-packed full of folks getting their dine on.

These apps were wonderful as always.  Hush Puppies hot and spicy, Pimento Cheese, cold and delicious, the fried Okra was fried and tasty.  And from what I heard the fried Chicken Livers were tasty as well.  My mother thought they were too sweet my father, however, finished the whole plate.

When we were done with those we commented that we should just come and order the apps because we were already full.

Our food came next, my father ordered the fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and Collard Greens.  My mother and I both order the Screen Door Plate which is any 3 side orders with some cornbread.  Mother ordered Catfish, Collard Greens and Red Beans and Rice.  I ordered the Catfish, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese.

The food was piled on, and it was a bit scary as my belly was still full from the apps.

My food was really great, nice and hot and could feed two people with no problems.  The catfish was not as good as my fathers but for restaurant fish food it was way ahead of the game.

Our experience at The Screen Door was a great one, because everything was great; Great food, great people, great drinks, great smells, great everything!!  I just wish my fam could get out and eat here more during the week maybe the Sunday crowd is the hottest and the other days suck (probably not).

Grammie's House Revisited

I go to my Grammie's house pretty often, most weekends I spend at least a day there.  This past Saturday we all went to a holiday fair at the fairgrounds in Salem, or and we ended up staying at my Gram's till past 1am.

I am showing some pictures that I took of my family for my class with my TLR Yashica that belonged to my grandfather.
While I was scanning in the pictures I notice that the light was different in every picture.  Some were lighter  and some were darker but all feel very warm. And I don't know if that is just my perception or because all the light sources around were tungsten light bulbs.

All I know is the pictures feel both warm in color and in content.
