Yesterday, Sunday the 14th of November, was Papa’s 64th birthday, and because he wanted to, we drove to Hood River. The drive was long and the sky was grey, but I love it when the sky is grey and gloomy so I was feeling pretty good about that. My father wanted to go to Full Sail, a brewing company in Hood River to take a tour and eat some ribs.
We got in around 3:20p and the waitress told us that the tour started at 4 so we decided to sit and eat some appetizers while we waited. We sat and I listened to my parents talk about how nice it was in there and I think we all were wondering if I was even allowed to be in there because I am not 21 yet. The place is full of tungsten lights which makes it really warm in there even when it is cold out, warm and welcoming also dim but that was comforting also.
We scarfed our food down because we only had about 15 minutes to eat before the tour started. We finished with 5 minutes to spare so we went out and waited for the tour to start. Our tour guide Barry came out and started chatting with my parents about the expiration dates of beer and yadda yadda yadda, I was much more interested in the murals on the walls that show the beer making process in pictures. From when you first walk in it show the wheat barley and along the wall is show the processes of boiling and all the machinery that is used and when you get to the restaurant is shows the beer in it’s bottles.
By the time the tour started we were joined by three other groups of people making our tour group about 12 strong. We go into the brewery part and Barry lets us taste the barley used and I notice that the light is all of a sudden pouring through the window behind us, very diffused and blue light. The whole brewery is lit by fluorescence and smells of barley which ads to the chemistry room feel. But I learned that making beer just is chemistry.
